Captain’s Day

Brian held his Captains Day recently where many members enjoyed the fine weather to play in Brian’s Comp and then came back at night to attend the prize presentation followed by a buffet meal and some vocal (and visual!) entertainment. All seemed to enjoy themselves on what was an extremely successful day for Brian.

Out on the Course

The Greens have recently been treated and are still playing well. We are still receiving glowing reports of the course and very positive feedback from virtually all visiting parties/societies. The recent Green Keeper’s revenge comp has shown that our course could be virtually unplayable if someone was of a mind to set it up in such a mischievous way as Dave and his team did. Please keep checking Andy’s (Greens Director) reports on the web site to gain an insight as to what’s been happening out the on the course.

Membership

This Friday (18th) at 4.30 onwards, we are holding a “new members event” for all those members who have joined the club in the last 12 months, please feel free to come along. This Saturday (19th), we are holding a golfer/non-golfer social event from 3pm onwards, once again please feel free to bring along a relative or friend to enjoy this event. Both events will be over 10 holes.

Feedback on food at NGC

Comment was made at this year’s AGM by a member that the food provided at the club was in their opinion sub-standard. A catering feedback form was therefore developed to gain the opinions of those eating at the club. Results so far from 43 returns clearly indicate overwhelming satisfaction with the catering provided. A 2nd feedback form may be developed for the Halfway House soon to seek views on this aspect of food provided. Overleaf is a summary of the results so far.

News around the Sections/Representative Golf

The Scratch Team (organiser, Des Lawson)

Finished eventually in 3rd place in what became very tight towards the bottom of the league at the end of the season. However this season has been used to groom some players who had previously being playing at Net level into the scratch team which will hopefully bode well for the future.

The Nett Team (organiser, Andy Bell)

Finished in 1st place, in the highest Nett Division, having won their very last game. Another excellent achievement by Andy and the boys, well done lads!

The Tigers Team (organiser Mick Tinker)

Haven’t quite finished their league program but cannot catch runaway leaders Hanging Heaton and are currently looking at a mid table or slightly higher finish.

The Eggs Section (2017 Captain, Bryan Harvey)

With just a couple of matches left the EGGS team have once more enjoyed a quite successful season of honourable draws! Their next match is home to Howley Hall on 29th. On Tuesday 22nd is the Captain’s Home Day event, which is a shotgun start. I’m sure it will be a well attended comp as is the norm with the largest active section in the club. Please check out their Notice Board for all their info.

The Rabbits Section (2017 Captain Paul Sims)

The 8 man Heavy Woollen league has been so tight this year that there was a chance that Normanton could have won the league if they’d have won their last match convincingly at South Leeds. However that wasn’t the case and now have to wait anxiously to see how the other clubs remaining fixtures go which could actually end up seeing them relegated.

The 2 man team eventually finished mid-table after early season promise faded. The Rabbits Section are holding their own Open Day on Monday 28th August for Handicappers 12-28. Pleas support and bring a guest, price £25/pair, excellent prizes available.

The Ladies Section (organiser Janet Gibson)

The ladies season has been finished for some time now. However, their Open Day in July was a successful and enjoyable event.
