As club Captain for this year it gives me tremendous pleasure to welcome you all for a great year’s golf during 2018/19 season. This includes all of our members, visitors and opposing players from other clubs.
This year is the 20th Anniversary of our move to Hatfeild Hall from Snydale.  Since that time the golf course has matured immensely and in more recent years has improved year on year and is considered as one of the best golf courses in our area. The golf course will continue to thrive with the hard work that is carried out by all of the staff at NGC.
Behind the scenes we have many members who get the opportunity to play for our representative teams which are organised by volunteers and Captains. I would like to wish all our teams well throughout the golfing season.
I also thank all of the directors for their continued hard work and dedication on behalf of NGC that is also carried out in their own time.
My Captains Charity bunker is the greenside bunker to the left of the 18th hole. If you or any of your playing colleagues visit the bunker please donate £1, to my chosen charity Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) or whatever change you have into the collection jars that are situated in the clubhouse.
Without your energy, NGC would not be the thriving and inclusive Golf Club we all enjoy today. Ladies, Gentlemen and Juniors, enjoy your golf throughout this and future years.

Club Captain 2018 -19

Out on the Course            
No doubt many of you will have seen/read the regular updates from our Greens Director, Andy, regarding the condition of the course, particularly following the unprecedented weather we had in March and April. This has clearly affected all golf courses in the region and set them back as to where we should be at this time of the year. However, with the hard work of the Greens staff combined with a more favourable weather forecast I am sure it won’t be too long before we are all experiencing the course in the condition we’ve come to expect it in recent years.

In the Pro Shop
Gary as always, has an impressive Pro shop, jam packed with fabulous equipment and clothing, so please have a browse and a chat with Gary. Remember always check with Gary first before purchasing elsewhere as he can normally match/beat other prices. Also if there is a part of your game that you’re struggling with currently, then don’t hesitate to approach Gary or Scott and I’m sure after a few lessons you’ll be hitting it like Rory.

In the Bar/19th Catering
Our Members Lounge and 19th Bar are the ideal place to relax with a drink and maybe some food both before and after a game. For all you real ale drinkers Mike offers ales with enticing names like “Dead Rat” etc. whilst Jenny has some good food choices on offer as bar meals. Please remember that we are dependent on members regular/frequent use of our bar and lounge to help keep our subscriptions at their current level.

By the time this goes to print we will have had our 1st social of the year, a Soul/Motown night starring “Reece” where over 100 members have bought tickets and I’m sure will have enjoyed themselves. Mike will try and arrange similar events on a regular basis.

Our current Membership is approx 540 following the resignation of 10 members at year-end. Whilst this number is still within acceptable limits of our Membership strategy, it does include however 40 social members, which has increased due to a significant number of our members either; waiting for operations, suffering injuries, recuperating from serious illness, working away from home, etc.

To fill the income gap this creates, we need to undertake a recruitment campaign and so we are therefore re-introducing the “Introduce a friend/colleague” initiative, where existing members will have £50 bar credit applied to their account for every new adult member they introduce who joins.

We are still offering 1st year incentives to any Lady or Junior joining NGC. So please recommend us.

I’m sure many members will be aware that we have a very promising junior girl member within our ranks. Amelia Birkin’s progress has been so rapid that she is now playing with the Ladies squad representing Yorkshire. Good Luck Amelia!

At the other end of the age scale, Dave Finch has been picked and played for Yorkshire Seniors again. Recently helping them win against Derbyshire by him winning his afternoon match 3&2. Well done Dave!

Business News
We have had another successful year on the non-Golf side of the business with Wedding bookings at record levels and 2018 looks like being another busy year. Feedback/reviews are excellent and it seems certain that our reputation is growing amongst the brides to be, looking for an impressive venue providing excellent service. Well done to our small Hospitality team!

If you know or work for any business out there looking for venues for Company golf days, meetings, seminars, etc. then please mention our name.

Remember the more income we can generate from golf visitors/green fees and the hospitality side of the business, the greater our chance of keeping the subs down at current levels, which are well below our competitors.

Improving Practice Facilities (leads; Dean/Richard)
We are looking at how to improve our existing practice facilities through some limited financial investment. Dean, our Captain, has made contact with a company regarding purchasing some equipment essential to expanding our current facilities, such as; range golf balls, a ball dispenser with buckets, mats to hit off, distance marker posts/coloured flags, a ball collecting machine, etc.

This would help make our existing practice field much more attractive to practice on, more like a driving range, albeit without the individual covered bays. It would mean that existing members could for a small charge take a basket of balls out onto either, the grass, or mats, and hit balls to distance targets without having to collect them personally. We will keep you updated on its progress, but we envisage this project to be up and running within the next month.

New Halfway Hut/Toilet facilities (Lead; John Watson)
Where is it, I here you asking? Well the delay has been in order to ensure we have accurate costings and competitive quotes before we commence procuring and constructing one. Your patience is much appreciated (as is Tina’s!).

Land Sale (Lead; Richard Poynton)
Following discussions the only area now being considered for possible sale would be the land to the right of the 3rd hole. We intend to progress with the feasibility of looking to release this area for re-sale.

Greens Building Extension (Lead; Andy Booth)
This project is at the final stage before letting a contract, where we have identified a preferred supplier/contractor and subject to final satisfactory negotiations with them, we would hope to commence building work soon.

Member’s Buggy Store (Lead; Richard Poynton)
This was raised by about a dozen members well over 12 months ago and whilst some preliminary work has been undertaken such as getting competitive quotes, it has stalled since and needs to re-commence to completion asap. Apologies to those members interested, your patience is appreciated.
