  • Metal NGC benches on 4th and 8th have been enhanced through the laying of concrete flags and edging to prevent wear and muddy puddles building up.
  • The members course survey was completed by 229 respondents. Key findings suggest Bunkers, Paths, Wet areas and Tees are the main concerns. Further in depth analysis to be undertaken by committee members and a separate meeting to be arranged to take issues forwards. Action Andy B to arrange future meeting and allocate areas to committee members.
  • Tree safety on A642 road perimeter of course. Wakefield Council attended and marked trees as required. Three contractors attended re estimates. When received Andy B to submit request to finance committee.

3. Green keepers update
Although the latest weather has seen a return to damp and heavy conditions the month overall has been good with the following been achieved

  • Repair, raise and re shape work to the bunker to the right of the 8th now complete and draining well into nearby ditch.
  • Repair to the bunker to right of the 4th is now complete and again draining well.
Repair work to the bunker to the left of the 3rd fairway has been completed trialling an alternative “sump” to catch sludge build up.
  • Repair work to the fairway bunker on the 7th has been completed and is draining well.
Work is now ongoing to repair bunkers on the 1st hole with new drainage pipes required from bunkers to the stream
  • Tree work between the 3rd and 15th has been extended onto right of 15th from tee to green. Heavy ground conditions prevented other course work whilst the bridleway allowed access to this area.
The dry week leading up to Monday 20th February allowed for greens to be cut and also tees and some fairways to receive their first cut of the year.
  • Greens have been spayed for disease
  • Greens and tees have been fed with iron to help combat moss
  • All greens continue to be spiked on a weekly basis using 300mm solid tines to allow air into roots and when frosty to allow this to help break up compacted soil.
  • The relatively mild winter and extra time engaged on course work has however limited the time available to work indoors on machine service and repair. This will need to be addressed in the upcoming weeks before grass growth becomes the major task.
  • Still awaiting suitable ground conditions to undertake hedge cut back using local farmer and his equipment.
YEB cut back of trees under power lines still requires removal which should have been completed by YEB contractors. NGC staff to finalise.
  • LDGU Ladies Winter Alliance for 104 competitors. Course presented with almost all bunkers in play and all tees / greens cut for the day

4. Professional update

  • Guests have indicated confusion over direction of course particularly on the 4th (walking to 15th) and the 13th (walking to 18th) Course signage options to be identified. Action Dave C

  • Research continues in respect of a contractor to undertake the Greens Building extension. Several contractors have declined the work based on scale however one firm has submitted an outline quote pending a site visit and two others are tentatively considering the requirements.
